About FreshLIMS

Software built in the crisis. Refined in the calm.

FreshLIMS started in 2020. The lab world was in a crisis, throughput was off the charts, and the systems most labs were running on weren't built for either the volume or the scrutiny that was coming. We started building something that could keep up — without giving up the audit trail.

Origin

Why we started

The pandemic exposed two truths about lab software. The first: a lot of LIMS were never written for the volume that hit. Throughput buckled, queues backed up, exports broke under load. The second: regulators and inspectors were watching closely. Even in a crisis, audit trails, QC and result integrity weren't optional.

We started FreshLIMS to build a system that handled both — fast enough for crisis mode, defensible enough for the inspection that follows. UK-built, designed around ISO 15189 from the start, with the validation pack ready to hand to an assessor.

What we believe

A few things we won't compromise on.

Audit-grade by default

Every meaningful action is logged. We don't ship a "compliance toggle" — the trail is always on. If we can't defend the data, we don't write it.

The lab owns its data

Full export available on exit. No lock-in, no "premium" data-export tier. Your records are yours.

Built with users in the loop

Most of what we ship comes from a customer call. We're small enough that the person who hears the problem is also the one who fixes it.

QC done properly

Levey-Jennings + the full Westgard rule set, with one-click investigations. No spreadsheets at month-end.

One platform, both sides

Lab and clinic on the same data model. The patient record doesn't fork between systems.

UK-built, UK-hosted

Hosted in the UK. Encrypted in transit and at rest. Daily backups, restore drills.

Today

Where we are now

A small team in the UK, focused on labs and the clinics that work with them. One of our customers passed UKAS 15189 and CQC running FreshLIMS — we're using that lesson to make every other lab's path shorter.

UKAS 15189 — passed by a FreshLIMS lab
CQC inspection — passed by a FreshLIMS lab
UK-hosted, encrypted, daily backed up

FreshLIMS is the LIMS — it doesn't carry the lab's accreditation. Accreditation is awarded to the laboratory by UKAS / CQC against their own scope. We provide the validation pack and the platform that supports their submission.
